Boswelia Serrata resin infusion is the extraction of chemical compounds present in the resin into an oil base, in this case - an olive oil.
Frankincense resin is the gum that is let out of Boswelia trees from India, Africa and Middle East. The resin has a long history of use in Ayurveda where this oil is rubbed on skin to ease inflammation and pain of gout. This is definitely NOT the essential oil available everywhere.
 
Frankincense resin produces the essential oil, the oleoresin, and the gum, which is the component that causes the resin to be hard. Frankincense essential oil is only the very light molecules, that distill in the steam to create the essential oil. The rest are Boswellic Acid, Incensole,and have anti inflammatory, anti depressant, analgesic properties.
 
It is not steam distillation but slow cooking the powdered resin of Indian frankincense in olive oil over low heat for several hours and  I use a lot of resin in proportion to oil.
The scent has an earthy, spicy ( typical Indian Frankincense ) aroma to it that is very different from the Boswelia Carteri (Frankincense from Oman). This oil that can be applied directly on the skin with the roll on top  and the roll on bottle is the just the exact trial size to decide if you want a larger amount for use in skin serums.
